It was in June 2017 that a sensational drug racket was busted by authorities in Hyderabad and the racket had also exposed the dark underbelly of Tollywood, as the dealers were also supplying drugs to several personalities from the Telugu film industry.
ED has now summoned 12 Tollywood actors and directors, including Rakul Preet Singh, Rana Daggubati, Ravi Teja, Puri Jagannadh, Charmme Kaur, Mumaith Khan, among others, in a four-year-old drug case. Director Puri Jagannadh has been summoned by the ED on August 31, Rakul Preet has been summoned on September 6. Rana has been called on September 8 and Ravi Teja has been summoned on September 9.
The ED is probing a money laundering case and these celebrities have been summoned as witnesses in the case. The money laundering probe is based on a case by the excise and prohibition department.
In 2017, these 12 actors and directors were questioned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) as part of a high-end drug racket. The hair and nail samples of 62 suspects including the celebrities were collected that time but they were then given a clean chit as no charge sheet was filed against them.
